The Client

Martin Keighley is a National Hunt Horse Racing Trainer based in Condicote, in the heart of the Cotswolds;  a stable that is proud to have trained over 200 winners to date, of which over 17 were at Cheltenham, the home of jumps racing.  Assisted by his wife, Belinda, 2017/18 has been targetted as an exciting and prosperous year for the team at Keighley Racing Ltd as they look to build on their increased successes in years gone by.

The Aim / Objective

Following an evaluation of several marketing and design companies, Finnick Creative was delighted to be informed that Keighley Racing Ltd had chosen us to design and print a short booklet to accompany their promotional efforts for the 2017/18 season.

Prior to this, their website www. martinkeighleyracehorsetrainer.com, had been developed. It was their aim to finish a 12-page main brochure, and 16-page Horses in Training booklet to distribute at their annual Owners Day.

Tegan Parsons worked hand in hand with Martin,  Belinda and Jon throughout the project and was given glowing reports on completion for her dedication and creativity throughout the project.

The Process

Before any text was written, two design templates were created integrating a similar concept to retain consistency.  Due to the development of the website, it was pivotal that the brochures maintained the same colour palette to be synonymous with the Keighley Racing Ltd brand.

From previous consultations with both parties, and the aforementioned website development, Tegan was able to create an evocative picture of a racehorse stable, this was reinforced through both brochures with photographs.

The main brochure is not text heavy, enabling easy reading and fashioning a compelling message that will appeal to new owners at the yard.

The Horses in Training brochure was again branded in the same style and follows a comparable template to what is shown in a usual race card; a feel which readers should resonate with nostalgia. This homely, yet strict template was framed so that all details were visible to the reader whilst ensuring balance between text and space.

Finally, a small number of advertisements were introduced and positioned throughout to complete the overall design style. The booklets were then printed by Typecraft and delivered to the team.

The Result

The response from Keighley Racing Ltd has been exceptional. All those who have seen the new brochures have noticed the tremendous difference in comparison to previous promotional material.

All in all, an excellent example of teamwork between designer, printer and copywriter.

All at Finnick Creative would like to take this chance to thank Martin, Belinda, Jon and all the team at Keighley Racing Ltd and would relish the opportunity to work alongside such a dedicated team once again.
